Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia is an iconic Italian wine estate located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. It is renowned for producing Sassicaia, one of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in Italy and the world. Sassicaia is credited with establishing the Super Tuscan category, which refers to high-quality wines made in Tuscany using non-traditional grape varieties or winemaking techniques.

The estate's history dates back to the 1940s when Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, the owner of the estate, began experimenting with Bordeaux grape varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. He planted these grapes in the Bolgheri region, which at the time was not known for winemaking. The rocky, coastal terrain of Bolgheri, characterized by its "sassi," or stones, gave the wine its name, Sassicaia.

Initially, Sassicaia was produced for personal consumption and was not commercially available. In 1968, the first commercial vintage of Sassicaia was released to the public.
